Please help us keep this house safe and beautiful by following all of the below rules:
WIFI: network: Winniebrook Farm password: welcometothefarm
Shoes - No shoes in the house, please. We have provided new or freshly washed house slippers for your inside use and comfort. Please leave your shoes in the mudroom entrance on the shoe mats and slip into your house slippers for the week while indoors. The slippers are for indoor use only.
Thermostats/heat - Heating this home is quite expensive. Help us save energy whenever you can.
- There are 3 main thermostats.
- Upstairs master bedroom and the downstairs great room have their own.
- All other rooms are controlled by the thermostat in the middle upstairs bedroom.
- Set no thermostat higher than 70 degrees.
- Turn heat down in rooms not being used.
- Try to keep doors closed throughout the house to prevent heat loss and save energy.
- Wood burning stoves are a great source of heat!
Kitchen
- Kitchen stoves - Both stoves function properly, but the gas stove needs to be lit by match (be careful).
- Feel free to use any condiments around the kitchen.
- Knives are very sharp! Be careful - do not wash the knives in the dishwasher, hand wash and dry after each use to keep them sharp and nice.
- Cast iron pans should not sit in water. Please wash them by hand and then dry them immediately after washing to prevent rusting.
- First aid kit is located by the kitchen in the desk drawer near the opening to the dining room.
Garage - There are 3 garage doors. The two on the left (while facing the garage from outside) can be manually opened. The door closest to house has an automatic door opener (button located next to the garage door leading into the house). Do not try to open the automatic door manually, it will break. Keep the garage doors closed when not in use.
Trash/recycling - The trash is by the sink next to the fridge. There is a recycling bin under the sink as well. Please recycle all metal, plastic, paper products in the recycling bin. There is a large trash bin in the garage for when the house trash bins get full. Be sure to tightly close up your trash bags before throwing trash in the big garage bin. Feel free to stack the recycling neatly next to the trash bin. We also have large black contractor trash bags that are a little bit sturdier for the big bin in the garage.
Wood burning stoves - You can use the wood burning stoves, but you will need to supply your own dry seasoned wood. Always keep all oven doors closed while in use. The metal bar to the front should be set all the way to the right for the flue to be fully open, thar is where the fire gets oxygen from. Move tthat bar to the left to close flue to turn off fire. Never move the hearth mats located next to the hearths. These fireproof mats are there for fire safety. Never leave a fire unattended. If you are unsure how to work the stove do not use it, or watch the video at winniebrook.com/hearth
Dining room candelabra is decorative. Please don’t light those candles as they are a fire hazard, but still cute.
Cell signal - There is no cell signal anywhere near the property. A hike all the way up the hill behind the barn can get you a couple bars up there in the woods (depending on your service provider). Use wifi for calls within the house.
Landline phone - Feel free to use the landline!! Only domestic calls, please. No international calls on the landline. The number is 607-832-4564.
Do not enter basement or attic, unless for an emergency. The water faucet running in basement is intentional, do not turn that off or pipes will freeze.
Do not enter the barn. It has not been tested for structural integrity, and it is not safe to walk in
TV is a smart TV with netflix, disney+, fuboTV (sports), and other apps. Please use the “guest” accounts so you don't influence our algorithmic suggestions too much :) and please be sure to not make any purchases on our accounts. Feel free to sign your own accounts as well.
Closets/dressers - Feel free to use them all at will!
Extra clean bed sheets and pillowcases are located in the cupboards at the top of the stairs.
The computer monitor in the office has standard apple cable connections - feel free to use it.
Animals/critters - Welcome to the great outdoors! Be mindful. do not leave food or food trash out (inside or outside). The area has deer, bears, foxes, skunks, mice, bugs that love food. Keep the garage doors closed to not attract any unwanted animals in the garage.
Living room sliding doors - Please do not use the sliding doors connecting the living room to the entrance/mud room. Keep them closed to collect heat. The new rug is a bit too tall so it needs to be adjusted. Please just walk around and enter through the hallway.
Outdoor water faucets/water pumps - Do not turn on any outdoor water faucets or old timey water pumps,. They have been drained for winter and will freeze and bust pipes if used.
